THE ARMENIAN QUESTION - ERMENI SORUNU

Since the end of the 1800s, Armenians joined up with invading Russian forces in an attempt to bite off part of the crumbling Ottoman-Turkish Empire, and create a new state for themselves: Armenia. To do this, they exploited European sympathies towards Christians to get both political and military aid. Then, when they were militarily unsucessful, they used propaganda to spread the word that Turks committed massacres. Unconfirmed reports were published in newspapers, and Armenian stories were spread by Europeans because it aided their own foreign policy of "divide and conquer" of the Ottoman Empire. Turks massacred by Armenians were ignored, nay, in a war over Anatolia, did not Turkish deaths in fact aid the European cause? Of course it did, and so the Europeans remained silent - why should they care about killed Muslims? Despite all this, the Armenians and Russians were defeated, and modern Turkey established. Now, by perpetuating the genocide myth, Armenians to this day are trying to get both land and reparations. Because that is in fact what is at the heart of the dispute: land.

Below are scholastic articles and websites related to the Armenian Question. I encourage you to read, think, and analyze before drawing any conclusions. It is easy to believe what is popularly spread, but don't forget that all the statements of politicians and diplomats can't change history: In the late 1800s to 1920s, Armenians attacked their Turkish neighbors who for centuries viewed them as brothers. Naturally, Turks fought back, and in the face of rising Turkish deaths (which by the end of the war totalled to several million) the Ottoman government ordered the movement of all Armenians in the Eastern provinces (where there was fighting with Russia) to the Iraqi and Syrian parts of the Ottoman empire. That is not genocide, it is self defense!
